This region occupies the central part of the country, with the following boundaries:
North:

Geography and Climate
It comprises the Central Valley and surrounding areas, such as:

Mountains on the southern side of the valley, where the county of Puriscal is located.

Los Santos zone with part of the Talamanca Mountain Range, which has high valleys from where waters drain towards the North (Reventazón, Pacuare, Chirripó in the Atlantic region)

The Orosí Valley and the county of Turrialba.

Eastern part of the Tilarán mountain range.
It has a clear central position; hence its name. It has the best climate of the country, with an average temperature of 20ªC without important oscillations. Temperature changes according to the elevation.The average rainfall ranges between 1500 and
3000 annual millimeters. It shows two well-defined periods: dry, from November to April, and rainy, from May to November.
The four main cities are San José, Alajuela, Cartago and Heredia, which are relatively close to each other.
The population of the region is 2,446,028 inhabitants.
It represents 64.1 % of the total country´s population
