Greetings folks,
Quick update. The City of Fort Collins’ recently published the results of the rental strategies questionnaire I mentioned back in February. To quickly summarize the City’s report: Larger property holders are “underrepresented” in their findings, their candor is surprising (at times), and ultimately they don’t answer the main question people have, mostly because it wasn’t asked: Do we really need or want licensing for rentals? The closest they get to providing an answer is this gem near the beginning of the report: “Broadly speaking, respondents expressed a high level of concern regarding the impact of potential rental registry policies.” They then go on to kinda sorta break down the multiple choice questions, with sprinklings of quotes from respondents, some in support and some saying their experiences with similar programs in other cities/states were poor. You can view the findings here: https://www.fcgov.com/housing/files/rental-strategies-survey_primary-findings.pdf?1659717450 The large majority of you seem to be of the opinion that this is a solution in search of a problem, which is also the position of the Fort Collins Board of Realtors. If you’d like to be involved please let the city know by providing your info here: https://www.fcgov.com/housing/rental-housing-strategies. If you want to know my position, I’m more concerned that this plan appears to be in motion without explicit approval. What's more, even though the majority of respondents expressed concern about the impact, they're moving forward anyway. If you have an opinion please contact your council rep OR the city. Thanks and hope you are enjoying your week! Crip
